Old Wound

The old abandonment wound

stalks me like a haunting song

a worn out, wormy lullaby.

Just when I think

I have outmaneuvered it

a new desertion finds me

reminds me:

licking the singing sting

weeping into the wound

was my earliest comfort

a salt

I mistook for myself.
